proposal for 2013

I haven't been around for a long time and it's sad to see the demise of this event, although the numbers have dwindled over the last few years. I liked the place that the weekend was held last year much more than when it was in the field. One problem is that people sometimes need to be pestered into attending events, I have done a lot of pestering for certain events over the years but I am afraid that I have run out of steam on that one.
As most people know, I am one of a few members that have attended all fests from 2005 to 2012, 8 events in all, at one time the forum would be buzzing with anticipation at this point, a month before, as the days counted down, so the excitement would build, people trying to get that last minute mod finished before Cougarfest, I was still doing that last year and I am one of the old timers in the club. If I am honest, if I could wave a magic wand and fix my car without any real hassle, I would be at Grendan with anybody else that attends and would be every bit as excited as the last 8 events.
What this event has lacked is somebody to drive it forward, that is not a criticism as I am aware that other life events sometimes have to take over and people have to sit back from other less important tasks, but I do think that somebody else could've been handed the reins of this thread to try and steer it in the right direction. The payment thread has been like an empty room, if I was a newbie didn't know the people on here, reading the payment thread wouldn't convey confidence in the event, I don't mean that I'd think it was a scam or anything, but people haven't rushed forward to participate and some of the updates were late.
I can't see this happening with the few people that are attending and even though I haven't been around much, there will be a very large cougarfest shaped hole in my life in July.

Good post Rich, and have to agree. I'm booked, deposit payed, but the sheer lack of interest is disheartening. You beat me by a couple of years, i've only attended consistantly since 07 and have looked forward with anticipation to every one and enjoyed every one. I'd like to think i could enjoy a few more yet before old age takes hold and i have to get a caravan, or worse, a B+B :D.
Fingers crossed we get a late tidal wave of interest and have just as much fun for future years. Get that car fixed Rich. (y)

Have to agree with most of what's just been written, having never attended a fest the enthusiasm here for it (lukewarm at best) hardly has me reaching for the cheque book.

I'll be honest, without a cougar at fest, I would feel like a fish out of water, it is always toted as being about the people, which it is, but having been all those times with my car, I couldn't attend without it. I haven't rushed into a decision on the car, although I thought I had decided weeks ago, I started it up last weekend and was mesmerized by the exhaust burbling away.

Well you still have one Cougar that's mobile, perhaps one more run out to Fest (or 'NotFest' as it will most likely be) will help you decide on La Cagna's fate one way or the other (y)

I agree with most of what you have written Rich.
This will be my first 'fest but I've followed with interest the threads about previous ones and to my mind as support and enthusiasm have tended to wane then the 'costs' to the club have become more and more a bone of contention.
Do we really need a marquee and a bbq when most people who attend meets or camp regularly have cooking facilities of some sort and the club already has a sizeable gazebo.
I think we need a decision in the very near future as to whether those who wish to attend are going to have to make their own arrangements and, if so, a new thread should be started to that effect.

From the off for this year, the assumption was that people would be self sufficient. Last year we only had the marquee and Tony's BBQ. With how few a people are deposited and or paid, there's nothing to book and as such nothing has been.

A good point in the gazebo and if it made it to fest, I'm sure the team that arrive will get it together and up.

I'm sure if necessity dictates it, then i'm sure i could squeeze the club gazebo in the car. Remember, it is fully enclosed with all side curtains. I'll be doing a bit of maintainence on it infact this week ready for Harewood.

If the assumption from the off was that people were to be self-sufficient and that nothing, to date, has been booked are the deposits already paid going to be forwarded to Grendon Lakes to go towards the camping fees of the people who have committed and wish to have some sort of weekend together?

Good idea.

I have no idea guys as deposits went to Jason. I'd have thought direct refunds might be easier rather than forwarding of monies. That way no one is out of pocket.

Again, contact with Grendon has been via Jason and this probably needs his input or at the very least a phone call to Grendon to cancel the "formal" booking and leave it for everyone to make their own arrangements. I'm sure they'll still be accommodating for club members wishing to use their site.
