What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

Had a new 130 amp alternator fitted today, dropped her in at 9.30 all done by 1.00 ex ford mechanic really good!! £176.00 all in, which i thought wasn't too bad. What with the new battery the lights are so much better! and no flickering on tickover as well!

Thats a great price mate, i paid £300ish to have mine done.

I've retrieved all my ST200 bits and pieces from the loft and I reckon I'm going to give it all a go this weekend. I've not made any changes to the Cougar in months!

Get an extra pair of hands if you can, mate. There's a weird multi-way vac tube that comes off the underside of the UIM (amongst other places) which is impossible to install after the UIM/TB are in position. Having another person makes a world of difference.

Also, if you're replacing the LIM, put the injectors into the fuel rail first. Seems counterintuitive, but it's actually easier than putting them into the LIM and trying to push the fuel rail over the top.

Once the injectors are in place and the fuel rail bolted down, but before the UIM is mounted, whack the battery on and turn the key to prime the pump (but not start the car, obviously). With the system thus pressurised, have a look for leaks - I don't recommend a lighter for this - which will tend to pool in the middle of the V. A leak means you pinched an injector seal.

Failure to idle correctly is a sign that you've got an air leak. As Tony will tell you, you must be scrupulously clean on the mating surfaces. Get Stanley blades, rags, and isopropyl alcohol.

Lastly, if you have a set of green injectors, don't bother with them unless you're planning a re-map. And if you don't have a set of green injectors, go and get some injector seals before you start the disassembly. Um. Trust me on that.

Good luck, and please feel free to call me if you get stuck on anything!

Bathed, dryed & waxed Claus today.
It then proceeded to wang it down with rain less than 20 mins after.
Amazing scenes.

Had the Cat's tracking sorted out today it's been a bit out since I hit a massive pothole near me in the pouring rain, the hole was filled with water. Anyway all done now and steering back to centre instead of off to the right.Thumbs up to the blokes at F1 Autocentre in Brentwood. Also a quick question ...... the car has Kumho directional 225/50/16 tyres.
Can anyone give me an idea what the tyre pressures front & back should be as the book only refers to the 215 tyres.

Ta Rob

The standard pressures (33 front and 31 rear, if memory serves?) would probably suffice, as there's not an enormous difference in the physical volume of the tyre. I ran both my 225/45/17s and 225/40/18s at 35 psi all round and didn't experience any uneven wear.

Shes back, been off the road since about late Oct, but I spent sunday giving her a good service, changed Lambda's & she is back running as usual spot on.... next is a good detailing weekend as she is no longer beeding (last wax has lasted since Blackpool Aug?!)

Plugs are Motorcraft, as far as the link for the breather pipe goes my local garage got it via Ford so no idea what the code is but i will ask when i get it fitted next week, i do know its coming via Germany and he was told stock is low hence no hanging around on getting it.

Since acquisition of MV51HJZ, have decided to retire T241MOB.
Excess interior parts now stored in it at mechanic friend's premises, and I have (most of) the items that MV51 might require back at mine.

MV51 has of course had a wash.

Sprayed her belly with a rust-stop paint.

There's one part that needs welding - an 8" section - and needs to be protected for now. But there were other parts that would possibly rot out if not treated, and I did them.

Interestingly, it was exactly the same as Ebony.

Thats what ive found that prevention is better than cure :)

Hoping to get the inner sills finshed off tomorrow, if I would have stayed on top of them they wouldnt have got this bad
