What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

i know have blue footwell lights - managed to relocate the ones i was using to light up my CD player now i fitted a new ones. its the little things

What I like about my method;
It utilises an existing wire that runs the "difficult" part of the path;
Whether a sunroof is or isn't fitted...
Having today looked in T241/Zetec, the sunroof feed and warning lamps console wires are absent. Does this point to neither being offered as an option on the Zetec, hence not being included as part of the loom?

I have a dashcam since the car before Cougar Zetec.
In Cougar Zetec I had hidden the power wire, behind the passenger A-pillar trim, plugged into a twin accessory socket (also with hidden feed for sat-nav) behind the lighter socket, but which was still plugged into the lighter socket.
As such this was still unsatisfactory with the lighter socket permanently powered meaning the camera had to be unplugged when stationary.

Considering a neater solution for MV51, and after discovering in Zetec a cavity above the courtesy lamp I decided to fit a single accessory socket there, knowing it could get permanent 12v from the map lamp feed. This would also free up the lighter socket.

Earlier I asked if there was a switched feed in the vicinity (MV51 has the extra warning lights console there) and @FlamencoAssassin helpfully informed me that the sunroof loom socket is there; this shares fuse with the power windows which only operate with the key turned, the ideal switching for the camera.

So soldered the accessory socket (removed from a coiled extension lead) to the cut wires from the sunroof feed, pushed the camera's mini-USB power cable out between the headlining and windscreen, wound up the excess cable and stowed above the courtesy lamp.

Photos; 1 & 2: the dashcam fed direct from lighter socket, with cable draped over rearview mirror
3: with the lamp housing removed, warning lamp console hanging before unplugging, sunroof socket (green and black wires) just visible pegged to inner roof skin at right
4: accessory socket soldered on instead and
5: reassembled showing camera powered via key switched feed.

Nice one Nvingo, I've been considering something similar, might end up being a combination of both your solution and the one below. No sunroof but I'm sure I'll find a way of doing it.

Wheels and tyres

So last Friday I left off work, drove to the very nearby sorting office to post some parts out.
Then headed to the kids' school to pick them up.
On the way there I heard an ominous ticking noise, coming from the wheels.
Stopped at the school and found this:

It was too close to time for the kids to come out to do anything about it (I did connect a 12v pump but air was escaping as fast as the pump could manage), so with them I drove the approx 500 yards to where Zetec is being parted. We took the two back wheels off Zetec and fitted to MV51; Zetec's spare and one of MV51's wheels to Zetec, and the punctured tyre in MV51's boot. Took this to tyre shop hoping they could/would plug it; they wouldn't so new tyre ordered and wheel left with them to fit Monday.
I forgot with my shifts that I wouldn't be in town during their opening times until today, when I jacked up Zetec and took MV51's other wheel in the boot to have a nail I'd spotted removed and plugged, they did that OK and fitted MV51's wheels back on, and I took Zetec's wheels back and refitted them.

Because MV51 has 215-50R16s and Zetec has 225-50R16s, so I at least ran for the week with same-size tyres across each axle; C2 alloys on front and C1s on rear, and didn't have to run slow with the skinny fitted to one corner.

Hey guys, finally started bits on my coug...but what is missing from the pic of my coug?

and what have these got to do with it?

Front grill has also now been removed too, as well as the carbon mirror caps, which I will be selling shortly as I have now replaced them with my original black mirror caps.

Unfortunately, owing to time and also money, I won't have the ST200 UIM fitted before Combe, so won't need the help with fitting a Viper induction kit at Combe. I will try and get this done during the summer, but will have to rely on my own spannering or possibly the garage around the corner.

I had a look underneath my coug and I'm thinking I'm going to need a new rear subframe and also rear droplinks, as she's looking a little tired under there. I will get the wire brush to it shortly once the damned rain stops and then give her a good coating of Hammerite, to keep things at bay for now until I can spend some proper money on her.

Devon MFSM! :)

Could be Matt, if people are willing to come this far? That's the problem with being this far down in the ol' west country. I wouldn't mind bringing my coug up country, but always worried about getting it to bits and finding more than I thought wrong and unable to then get her home again.

both melina and ejay have had oil/filter changes today....even used motorcraft filters...thanks ebay.

id come down there to work on such a lovely coug..but i know what u mean about getting her stranded....im sure she'd be safe at a club members place but hey i even get upset when i leave melina at the mot garage.
i think chris plans to do a subby on tiger at some point...maby double up if chris is happy with it...we certainly wont leave u stranded..
the trick is to save up as many bits u may need like droplinks or rubbers and we normally have some spare bolts ready..

Yeh, that maybe an idea, but for me it's a case of time and also money, which recently have had to throw at our daily runners. It would be easier if there were other members around who know what they are doing. It's bad enough that my exhaust is held on with wire because the rubbers have all split. I did buy some poly ones but only could get one of them fitted, as the others are the wrong shape and size. The rubbers supplied by MIJ were crap, and I have had two lots of exhaust rubbers from them, both lots split within months of being on the car. I keep looking for some poly ones but difficult to find the right shape and size to fit. This is just one more job that needs doing, the list is endless lol.

Better off using the chunky ones from an exhaust centre Tim, poly ones are poo

tonys right about exhaust polys, they really dont last for some reason...i think its the heat that does it...had them on the scorpio and they all cracked around the mounting holes.
best stick to rubber me thinks.

Not had much time for Cougaring lately, between work, sorting out the Puma, bouts of raging toothache and visits to the dentist (which I hate).

However, inspired others around here, I got me a spare set of rear lights and some tinting spray, secured the use of one of the spray booths at work and had a go at making some darker taillights.

Unfortunately, I've made a mess of it. I'm trying to rescue it but I suspect I'll need to start again. Ho-hum, there's always next weekend I guess. More tinting spray (and tint remover) ordered....

Yeh, but that has been the issue, the rubber one's literally only last a couple of months before the split and come away from the mounting, which is why at the moment I have them wired to stop them from dropping to the floor. May go to an exhaust centre in Plymouth and see what they advise.

Has no-one noticed that the chrome has gone from around the window frames. I've bought some new stuff but am doing something a little different, also hoping to get the alloys refurbed too.

Yeh, it's a pain when you have done a load of work, only to then have to re-do it again. I've sprayed my rear lense masks, but not overly happy with finish, as too much orange peel. Tried to wet sand back, but just removes all the paint and takes it back to the plastic again, so must be doing something wrong. I've sprayed them before without issue, but this time a bit different. Wonder if it's been too cold for the paint? Will have to ask the spraying master - uncle Al aka Pid.
