Mabo, the alternator doesn't need to be that much of a PITA, especially if it hasn't been in there for very long. The trick is having the right extensions.

Hi Mako, been there done that but thanks anyway. Did it all on my lonesome and in some masochistic way enjoyed the challenge.
Agree it could come off relatively easily but the windings are almost certainly good and the problem with the rectifier. I considered remote mounting the rectifier last time I did the alty but decided it was a future project. Maybe now is the time for this challenge.
Before that I need to part reassemble and check it wasn't just a loose plug.
Not been tempted back into the garage yet, over the weekend probably.
