What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

Mabo, the alternator doesn't need to be that much of a PITA, especially if it hasn't been in there for very long. The trick is having the right extensions.

Have a look at this helpful video:

Hi Mako, been there done that but thanks anyway. Did it all on my lonesome and in some masochistic way enjoyed the challenge.
Agree it could come off relatively easily but the windings are almost certainly good and the problem with the rectifier. I considered remote mounting the rectifier last time I did the alty but decided it was a future project. Maybe now is the time for this challenge.
Before that I need to part reassemble and check it wasn't just a loose plug.
Not been tempted back into the garage yet, over the weekend probably.

Stuck my offside foglight cover back on. It must have been hanging off at Harewood but yesterday i just happened to be chatting to a mate of mine a few yards in front of DG and noticed it was sat slightly proud of where it should be, so i went and pulled it off. I remember i stuck it back on a while back with double sided tape as a temp fix till i got some adhesive, and forgot about it. Luckily my brother had some silicone adhesive so saved me having to buy a new tube just for two blobs. All sorted now. It actually took longer to type this than it did to fix it :)

Fitted tinted lights and new emblem

They're passing enough light through, but both reverse lights are out.
Both bulbs can't be blown? One looked ok visually.
Wonder if I've knocked something when I took the centre console out....

Nothing other than drive it.

But..I did some cougarforcing, picked up a welcome gift for my car....delivered some more stuff....picked up some more....met some friends, and had a go on a welder!!

A day in the life of ukcougar :)

Washed and waxed and fitted dab radio and antenna

Further to post 4001. Yippee sorted. Found the clip in the tray with my ratchet spanners taped it in the open position on the plug, guided the plug into place on the alty, snap plug in, push spring clip into place to secure the plug. Refit the 2 connections on the main alty stud. Reconnect the battery. Start engine.
Wow does she sound good running on just stainless manifolds and nothing else. Voltmeter indicates 14.6 V with the engine running. Result a smiley me. I guess remote mounting the rectifier is postponed again. Refitted the exhaust link pipe to join the manifolds to the rest of the system, Run engine a little to get some heat into the exhaust joint compound I applied to the gasket on the rear of the flexi. Check voltage again. Still a happy chap. While she's jacked up in the garage I might as well change the crankshaft end oil seal. It's been weeping for a while, but that's for another post.

but both reverse lights are out.

Geoff the problem is a connection in the cable on top of the gearbox, underneath the air filter box. You can hold the connector in place and make them work, but as soon as you put it back in place and refit the filter box, the movement stops them working again. As they are not part of the MOT I never worried about it.

She's looking good though - have you managed to take all the stickers off now:LOL:

You might be not aware but there is no need to remove the spring clip from the plug in order to release the plug.
Pressing the spring clip on it's 'bridge' causes it to 'open' allowing removal of the plug.

So in prep for selling my kitty :(, I removed all cougar-head badges etc and it has reverted to a Ford badges vehicle . . . some items will be listed for sale soon. Some stuff still to take off at the weekend.

Sorry Matt I've just seen this post.

That's useful to know, is it the one going directly in to the box (phwoar) or is it the plastic connector further up the cable?

First thing I did was remove stickers but I kept the cougar head on the petrol cap, club stickers in the Windows, and the v6 under the side repeaters. The new boot emblem matches those ones you put on the wheel centres.

Just need to order one of those cougar head brake light masks from the godfather when he's back from holiday
